@Eytan Adar: Eytan: thanks for inviting authors to post their presentations to slideshare (http://www.slideshare.net) during the conference. Three authors have accepted the invitation, which seems like a very low acceptance rate for a community that studies social media. Perhaps there's a bias against participating in (i.e., only observing, analyzing, reporting on) social media among some of the researchers, but I think it would to everyone's advantage to share the knowledge beyond the sessions (especially to share the knowledge below the bottom third of the slides, that most of us who were at the conference could not even see).
I would like to invite you to send directed emails to authors to point them to SlideShare, a wonderful social media resource for sharing information about, well, sharing information.
Thanks!
@Matthew Hurst: For those of us that had to leave a bit early, who won best paper?
@Darya Krushevskaya: Hey Darya,
Really cool pictures, thanks for covering all the events of the conference :)

Check out NPR's story about youth and privacy in online social networks: http://www.npr.org/templates/story/st...
Anybody else have a flight too early to catch the shuttle, and want to split a cab? My flight's at 6:15.
@Bryan Sippel: If I'm ever organizing a mass of 30+ people to descend on a restaurant and have a great time, I'm calling you to make it happen! ;-)
I wish there was a way to connect with all the ICWSM friends on crowdvine directly on Facebook, Linkedin and Twitter. Anyways I am "akshayjava" on all these -- would be great if we can connect!
@Ian Soboroff: Here's the quote I mentioned in my comment / question:
"Any clod can have the facts, but having opinions is an art."

@Stacy Wong: Wish list item to pass along to the interface folks .... pls add a "My Digital Library" link to the home page task bar (Kathy's Amazon....)
I hate having to log into Account to get there ..., and it's Hidden on that page!
@Kathy Gill: Likewise! Keep me updated on your undergraduates. I can send you our codebook.
@Matthew Hurst: Hi Matt:
I've also heard folks asking for a roster of attendees. How difficult would it be to create one (PDF, maybe) and post it in here or link to it in here?
I know it'd be great for me as I've met people where I didn't grab a business card and they haven't registered here. :-/
It would also provide an incentive to set up an account!
Finally, I think we should keep this "up" for networking between now and next year and to use in next year's conference as well.
@Joe McCarthy: Thanks. I probably should be more interested in the "why" than I am... normally it's one of my first questions! ;-)
Right now, I seem to be more focused on "what" as in "what are the impacts on existing structures" -- primarily political institutions and news media. Of course, that means I'm also very interested in economic impacts!
Finally, I'm mulling over this idea that "democracy" means "everyone should contribute equally" or "everyone's contribution is equal". This seems false. To me "democracy" means "everyone has the chance to contribute" --but not that all contributions have equal merit or that a system has "failed" if everyone does not chose to participate.
@Kathy Gill: I liked your comment after Marc's talk regarding the differentiation between the medium and the objects produced in / posted through that medium. I'd like to further expand the taxonomic differentiation by mentioning Jyri Engestrom's take on Karin Knorr Cetina's notion of object-centered sociality (http://www.zengestrom.com/blog/2005/04/why_some_social.html): that the sociality we see in social networks (or perhaps social media networks) is motivated by / centered around the objects in those networks, e.g., photos, videos or blog posts, i.e., objects as both input and output in social [media] networks.
@Pat Moore: I also enjoyed the conversation with you, I would really appreciate your suggestions after my presentation today, I need all ideas I can get for my research proposal due next month
@Darya Krushevskaya: Hello Darja,
Just wanted to say sorry we lost you tonight. When we got to Kells, we tried to call you and text you, but for some reason they didn't go through before you got back to the hotel. Anyway...we definitely owe you a coffee or a drink tomorrow...

@Bryan Sippel: I think profile pictures where the subjects are photographed with anthropomorphic mascots are strongly indicative of likability. Now I know how to test that hypothesis.
@Matthew Hurst: Matt: Please ask all authors to post copies of the slides from their presentation at SlideShare (http://www.slideshare.net), with the tag ICWSM (and/or perhaps ICWSM2008, as I see there are 3 presentations from last year that have been uploaded), for the benefit of those of us who were / are / will be unable to see the bottom third of the screen during the talks. Pre-posting the slides - before the talks - would be especially helpful.
Using SlideShare would also be a great way for those who are conducting research into social media to actually use social media in communicating their research.
Thanks!
@William W. Cohen: Please post a copy of the slides from your presentation at SlideShare.net, with the tag ICWSM, for the benefit of those of us who are / were unable to see the bottom third of the screen during the talk. Thanks!
